Soroptimist International was founed in 1921 in the USA and now has almost 100,000 members in more than 3000 clubs in 119 countries around the world.
We are part of the Great Britain and Ireland Federation.
We all use our skills to work in the areas of human rights and the status of women, international goodwill and understanding, education, health, the environment and economic and social development.
We have general consultative status with the United Nations and have representatives at the UN centres in New York, Paris, Geneva, Vienna, Rome and Nairobi., The name “Soroptimist” was coined by combining the Latin words soror “sister” and optimus “best”, and can be taken to mean “best for women”
