Sparking asha for 100 ASHA workers

  1. Soft breezes and floral tributes to the toothless but beautiful smile of Mahatma Gandhi presided over the Centenary celebrations of Soroptimist International by its Bangalore Chapter. On October 2, excited SI members, lit up in bright khadi and cotton sarees, gathered in the wide, open Koramangala post office grounds at 9.30 a.m.

SIB distributed 100 grocery ration kits, to ASHA (Accredited Social Health) workers. Each kit comprised of 5 kgs rice, 3 kgs dal, 3 kgs of wheat flour, 3 kgs or sugar and 1 litre of sunflower oil. The programme was in partnership with IQVIA, a global clinical research provider, and Inner wheel, a South Bangalore club that contributed 100 sarees, 100 sanitary napkin packets and 100 sweet boxes. SIB’s Chief Guest, Dr Ramalinga Venkat Reddy, MLA (Former Minister of Home affairs Karnataka) expressed his happiness that SIB had chosen Mahatma Gandhi’s 152nd birthday to take the message of love forward, while commemorating its own centenary celebrations of service for women. He promised to support SIB’s future programmes.

ASHA workers offered a special musical thanksgiving to SIB, while the programme also drew the attention of some prospective members. It was a day of celebration and satisfaction over a century of service.
