SIB, through an expert member, Menaka, conducted a tassel tying workshop on July 3, at Vidya Centre of Excellence, to enable, educate and empower women. As the small business of tassel making does not need other financial investments and is in much demand, the club used resources of a highly skilled member to train them on the nuances of quality tassel tying for expensive sarees.
Women from nearby slums were enrolled and introduced to tassel making and marketing. Another member, a doctor, gave them talks on health and hygiene. SIB also agreed to help the women find work.
Our member Dr Prathibha, an experienced botanist, gave talks on health and hygiene to clear misconceptions, gave health tips and answered questions.
